Artist Statement

My work explores vulnerability and belonging through the lens of my South Asian diasporic experience, shaped by living across the UK and India as well as the influence of my grandfather, an architect and my first loss, whose passing continues to shape my identity. My practice spans across collage, craft, painting, and sculpture, aiming to spark conversations around narratives we don’t openly share in our daily lives. Through my work, I create spaces for deeper connection and a shared sense of belonging.

I use found materials such as circuit boards, maps, household objects, childhood games, clothing and architectural materials. These act as containers for memory to evoke moments of self-reflection and connection. I use materials in unexpected ways, employing processes of cutting, burning and stitching to strip materials from their original use. These transformations invite viewers to look beyond the surface and encounter materials in new ways. I like to directly engage with materials by hand, influenced by the history of handwork in Indian craftsmanship.

My work contributes to contemporary dialogues on identity, displacement, memory and communal connection. Vulnerability is an important part of my work. I view it as a powerful force capable of transforming personal narratives into universal languages for connection and dialogue.

Through my work, I create spaces for viewers to reflect on their experiences of belonging and vulnerability. I plan to expand my work into more immersive and emotionally engaging experiences through materials exploration, incorporating kinetics, light and exploring space and scale.
